Actor Morgan Freeman has been involved in beekeeping for many years, turning his 124-hectare property in Mississippi into a bee sanctuary to save them.
Following scientists’ alarming warnings about the terrifying decline in bee colonies, the renowned actor decided to introduce 26 beehives from Arkansas to his property and plant bee-friendly plants such as lavender, clover, and magnolia.
Incidentally, this Oscar winner first spoke about his beekeeping hobby in 2014 on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
“I found out that I don’t have to wear a protective suit or anything else to feed the bees. They have never stung me, and they never will,” Freeman said in 2014.
Freeman’s hobby comes at a time when there are fewer bees worldwide. The U.S. Department of the Interior has overturned a rule banning pesticides that endanger bees and butterflies.
Remember, in January of this year, the United States became the first country to approve a vaccine to protect bees from American foulbrood, a bacterium that weakens bee colonies by attacking their larvae.
